A Note on Progress

I'm sorry to say that progress on My Avatar Editor is not going as quickly as I had hoped. I've been incredibly busy with 'real life' and haven't had time to pursue much out of that (i.e. the editor).

Chances are if anything is going up any time soon, it will just be a re-skin of the old editor. This means none of the new features will be available; it will just be the old editor with a different look and feel. But even that can take some time.

If anyone is super anxious just to get their hands back on the editor (in whatever form they can get it), drop a comment. Given enough interest, I can try to get something basic out sooner than later.

I would definitely like to see a version of the old editor back while waiting to see what new stuff you have planned. Thanks!

Hi! I am super interested. Any chance you could at least release the miieditor that was air compatible? The previous version doesn't work any more. :(

The concerns from Nintendo apply to all previous versions of the editor, so I am unable to re-release any of those, AIR or otherwise. I will need to re-skin and remove any possible references to Mii™ or Wii™ - at least in a context which could confuse the viewer in terms of project authenticity.

Specifically concerning the AIR build, I will need to rewrite much of that since I believe the last build was built on a beta version of AIR. I don't know how much the APIs have changed in the final 1.0 (or now 1.1) release, but I don't think it will be super difficult to fix and republish as a new AIR app.

I wish for the Editor to be back... even if it's a re-skin of the old one on the time being =(

Thanks for making such an effort anyways! =)

Something similar within imposed limitations would be appreciated.

See how many people want it back? Can't you even make the AIR app work again? Or the Flash one work again?

I think an Avatar Editor like dicussed so far in your blog would be brilliant. The mii's ar ethe best thing aout the Wii and to be able to creqte similar (though by the sounds of it, superior' avatars for tbe PC would be so much fun. Everyone should have a mii, er , avatar.

Good luck with your project.

Ok, I'll see what I can do. I've recently been hit with a narsty stomach virus (or something) which has knocked me out for a while, but I'll do what I can to get something up soon.

As I said before, due to concerns from Nintendo, the old editor will NO longer be made available. I'm sorry, but that's just they way it is.

I purchased the Mii (Manager)editor From a major Electronics store 2 weeks ago, Is it no good? I also wonder if this had anything to do with the difficulty of the download. Can you not sell your talents to individuals outside of the retail market?

For those of you paying attention ;) You can give it a whirl here:

I don't know how much actually works, but you should at least have basic editing capabilities. If other things are broken, I can look at them later.

You'll notice the interface has changed a bit. It should be enough to keep it from being in conflict with Nintendo's interests, and more so once new features are added.

YeS!! appears to be working great. I created an 'avatar', edited every item, then exported it as a jpg.

Thanks so much!

Nice remake, I can't wait to see more features being added.

I know you didn't mention anything about reporting back on the Beta software, but I thought I'd mention that when I try to save the .avatar binary my browser (safari) just downloads a text file with the error copy: Error: Invalid type.

Again, great work on this!

Thank you el_dangeroso. That is a known issue.

Great!!!

Good job Senocular. Good news to have the Editor back online.

Thank you.

how can i use the old *.mii files in this new program? i tried renaming the extention to *.avatar but that didn't work. What's the method to get mii's from the console onto the editor, change them and then back onto the console filename-wise? (i know how to do the actual transferring). Thank you!!

How do you get the default boy and girl back?

-------------------------------- said...

Great job! Can't wait to see the reskin!!

senocular said...

Much of the functionality that .mii files and other features relied on has been broken with the new changes.

I'll try to get enough working to at least load the default girl or default boy in from scratch.

As a workaround, you can get the default boy if you: right-click on the editor, select Settings..., clicking on the third tab (Local Storage), sliding the slider to 0, selecting OK when you're warned that the data will be removed, then sliding the slider back to where it was (at least 100k should be OK). This clears out the saved character. Refresh the page and you should have the boy back.

senocular said...

The load feature *should* work now. I've also allowed extensions .mii, .mae, and .avatar to be used as binary file extensions (case shouldn't matter). Files without those extensions will be parsed as XML, possibly even as hex text if XML fails. I don't know if it does that now, but it could be a good fallback.

senocular said...

save should work now too...

awesome! I'll be trying this out as soon as I get home. I've backed up some miis to my powerbook with miitransfer and hope to load them up here for jpg export.

Thanks for the hard work!!

Will this have more options than the Wii version(more eyes, mouths, etc.)? Interested either way.

I have never used "Mii Editor" but it looked very interesting.
I look forward to seeing the new one.
